Description
The Houseboat
The boat is ideal for relaxing and getting to know Germany’s sunniest spot, the lovely island of Fehmarn. The interior is bright and charmingly designed with two cozy bedrooms that sleep five. The kitchenette is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, water heater and coffee maker. The dining room table seats four but can be extended for six. The toilet is separate from the shower area. The lower terrace is ideal for dinner, while the upper sun terrace spans the entire roof. On board you will find WiFi, games, a TV, a DVD player, radio, hair dryer, yoga mat, binoculars, lots of candles, and a picnic basket. On cooler days, the infrared heating system will keep you toasty warm. Be sure and look at the water below in the cutout window on the floor.
The Views
The views are amazing, especially from the rooftop where you will have a complete panoramic view from the harbor to the Burger Binnensee, all the way out to the Baltic. The view from the living room area is magnificent at any time of day, but particularly during sunset.
Breakfast, Coffee and Cake
Breakfast or fresh Fisch can be had mere minutes away at the Fehmarnsches Fisch Lädchen on the other side of the harbor. Even closer is the lovely Cafe Kontor, where you will find fantastic homemade cakes for the afternoon.
Bikes
There are several places to rent bicycles on Fehmarn. One is about 5 minutes away on the other side of the harbor, a very short walk.
Hungry?
There are many terrific places to eat on Fehmarn. Or, you can go to any of the local grocery stores (including one organic) to buy food to cook yourself. We like the Wednesday farmer’s market in Burg a lot, though there is also a convenient fruit and honey stand in the harbor. For the more adventurous, look for the lines of people on the docks waiting to buy from the fishermen fresh fish just plucked out of the sea.
Fehmarn/Burgstaaken Harbor
Fehmarn is one of the sunniest spots in all of Germany. The island is off the North Coast of Germany in the Baltic Sea with the Burgstaaken Harbor nestled into the Southern part of the island. Fehmarn is considered family friendly, dog friendly, and well… they’re just super friendly. There’s lots to keep you busy in Fehmarn what with the sea and the surf and beautiful landscapes. Though Burgstaaken has many activities directly in the harbor, it manages to find the perfect marriage of activity and quiet, lounge-about. The harbor is still a functioning, working harbor.
Bring a Friend, Man’s Best Friend
We’re a dog-friendly houseboat and would be happy to accommodate your house-trained pooch. The dyke next to the harbor is ideal for long, calm walks with your dog(s).
Activities
You’ll find just about everything here: horseback riding, go-karting, SUPing, shopping, wall climbing, golf, mini-golf, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, and of course, kite, wing and windsurfing. Since there is plenty of wind and the Burger Binnensee is shallow, it’s great for landing with your head above water. If you’ve not tried, there’s a school across the water from our houseboat. If, however, you’d like something a little more quiet, there’s that, too. Swing in the hammock, sip a glass of wine, watch the birds in the nature preserve, take in a movie (either on board or at the unique movie theater in Burg), check out a book at the library, go for a walk on the dyke, photograph the spectacular views, or sip some glorious coffee in one of the many cafes. If you’ve not yet tried the ice cream, it’s legendary.
About the Owners
Though “The Goose” is managed by Angela Winkel Hausboot- und Ferienwohnungsvermietung, Marc and Marchel are the owners. We live near Berlin and come to the houseboat whenever our crazy lives allow. We named the boat for our beloved dog, “The Goose”. She was such a sunny girl. We hope that your time on the boat is just magical. May you find the fun and peace there that we always do. Look out onto the water and feel the worries in your head melt away.
